Waterproof Jacket: An absolute must-have in any season.|Sturdy Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots with non-slip soles are essential.|Layered Clothing: Wear a t-shirt, a fleece or sweater, and your jacket to easily adapt to changing temperatures.|Hat and Gloves: Recommended for any season except the height of summer.

Planning

Historical Context

The Giant's Causeway was formed approximately 50 to 60 million years ago during the Paleogene Period. Intense volcanic activity resulted in molten basalt lava flowing into a river valley. As the lava cooled rapidly, it contracted and fractured into the distinctive hexagonal columns we see today. The site has been a source of scientific study and wonder for centuries.

Photography Tips

  • Use a polarizing filter to reduce glare from the wet rocks and enhance the blue of the sea and sky.
  • Golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) provides the most dramatic lighting.
  • A wide-angle lens is perfect for capturing the vast scale of the landscape.
  • For crashing waves, use a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion or a slow shutter speed with a tripod to create a silky, misty effect.

Insider Tips

  • Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the peak crowds from midday tour buses.
  • Walk the cliff-top path (Red Trail) for stunning aerial views away from the crowds.
  • Listen to the complimentary audio guide available at the visitor centre to enrich your understanding of the site's geology and legends.
  • If driving yourself, consider parking in Bushmills and taking the heritage steam train to the Causeway for a unique experience.

Our Partners

  • We are proud to partner with globally recognized and trusted travel platforms like GetYourGuide and Viator. This allows us to offer you a vast selection of high-quality tours with the security and reliability of world-class booking systems.

Fun Facts

  • There are similar basalt columns in Fingal's Cave on the Scottish isle of Staffa, which is what gives the legend of the causeway being a bridge its geological basis.
  • Some of the columns are up to 12 meters (39 feet) high.
  • The site was 'discovered' by the wider world in 1692 and became a popular tourist destination for wealthy Europeans in the 19th century.

Cancellation Policy

Many of our partner tour operators offer a free cancellation policy when you cancel at least 24 hours in advance of your tour start time. This provides excellent flexibility for your travel plans. Absolutely breathtaking! A must-do in Ireland!

Even as a local, the Causeway never fails to amaze. The tour we booked through this platform was fantastic. The driver, Sean, was a character, full of stories and history. We had plenty of time at the Causeway itself, plus stops at Dunluce Castle and the rope bridge. Seamless booking and a perfect day out.

A very long but rewarding day.

The tour from Belfast was great value for money. The Giant's Causeway is truly a wonder of nature, it looks unreal. The bus was comfortable and the guide was very informative. My only small complaint is that the stop at Carrick-a-Rede felt a bit rushed. Overall, a fantastic way to see the coastline.

Worth Every Penny! Game of Thrones sites were a bonus.

My wife and I booked this tour for our anniversary trip. The booking process was simple and we got our tickets right on our phone. The Causeway itself is mind-blowing, the pictures don't do it justice. Our guide pointed out several Game of Thrones filming locations which was a huge bonus for me as a fan! Highly recommend.

Perfect organization and a wonderful guide.

From the easy online booking to the hotel pickup, everything was perfectly organized. Our guide, Sarah, was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. The landscape is incredible, even with the typical Irish weather! Make sure to wear good waterproof shoes. A 5-star experience.

Stunning Scenery, A Bit Crowded.

The Antrim coast is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The Giant's Causeway is the star, of course, but Dunluce Castle was also a highlight. The only downside is that the main site gets very crowded, especially midday. Try to wander away from the main cluster of people to find a quieter spot. The tour was well-paced otherwise.

Beautiful but Challenging Walk.

The views are 5-star, but visitors should be aware that the walk from the visitor center down to the stones is quite steep. There is a bus, but the line was long. I am fit, but I saw some older people struggling on the way back up. The site itself is magnificent. The tour bus was clean and modern.

An Irish Bucket List Item Ticked Off!

This was the highlight of my trip to Ireland! Booking was a breeze and the tour covered all the key sights without feeling rushed. Walking on those basalt columns felt like being on another planet. The guide's stories about Finn MacCool brought the legend to life. Don't hesitate, just book it!

Good tour, be prepared for all weather.

The coast is wild and beautiful. We had sun, rain, and wind all in one hour! The tour was very good, our driver was skilled on the narrow coastal roads. The Giant's Causeway is a must-see. The visitor centre is also very modern and informative. A great day trip from Belfast.
